There is nothing nicer then stainless... as far as the flat top thats that too... easy to clean... my parents did manage to break the glass at one point but that was because my dad dropped a shelve on it :) that will do it

We are also about to replace all appliances.  We have decided to go with stainless steel.  Major improvements have been made in the finishes applied to stainless steel appliances.  Fingerprints are no longer the huge problem they once were.  While stainless still requires special cleaner to maintain the finish, they are pretty maintenance free now.

We are going to a gas cooktop, purely because we are both amateur gourmet cooks, and nothing beats a gas flame for heat and heat control.  We had a smooth top for a couple of decades.  Not interested in THAT again.
