Q: wedding ring on wrong hand

How come some people wear their wedding ring on the "wrong" hand? I first noticed it on a guy i used to work with but then I noticed it again on a lady at the store.

Different cultures have different customs. I do know that some do wear their wedding rings on the right hand and some also don't use the ring finger at all. Unfortunately I can't remember the name of the culture right now so a little googling might be of assistance.
