With so many online dating sites out there with many members I wonder how effective it is. I'd like to know any experiences people have had.
Finally I let him talk me into it, too. I had never dated much, but had no problem meeting some interesting (and some boring) girls online. I met my current GF of 9 months on HotOrNot.com, which is maybe the most fun of all the ones I've tried. Match.com seems the most average of the sites I've tried and wasn't too exciting. eHarmony totally sucks. OKCupid is maybe the most interesting and promising site. It's totally free and looks like it has the best matching software of all. I was doing both OKCupid and HotOrNot when I got out of the game and would recommend both of those.
My sister convinced me to try it. I was never much of a social person and never went anywhere that singles hooked up. I did spend a lot of time online, though, so eventually I caved to my sister's insistence and joined OKCupid.
OKCupid's fun because it's free and they have a nifty and fairly accurate way of matching people. You answer a bunch of questions from a massive list (how many you answer is up to you, but the more you answer the more accurate your results), then you say how your ideal mate would answer, and how important the question is for you. Their computer then matches potential mates with what you put as your ideal mate's answer and weights it based on the importance. It then gives you a percentile score to say how much that person matches your ideal. It averages both of your percentiles together to get a "couple score", and this is what's displayed when you look at a person. It has a lot of other fun stuff on the site to keep you occupied, like the Virgin Game and a whole series of user-created personality tests. Even though they have a lot of other stuff it's still primarily a dating site and I found myself going there less and less often as my bf and I kept going out.
I am extremely satisfied with the results I got, though. I love my boy and we're very happily living together two years after OKCupid. :)ps- stay away from webdate.com
