Which kind of girl is more appealing for you (assuming that you want to have a relationship lasting longer than one night): a) Her looks really turn you on, even though she's merely OK as a friend or b) She is really pleasant to be around and also really likes you, but her looks are merely OK?

Looks go away. Looks aren't there when you wake up next to her in the morning. Looks change over time. Without character, there's nothing there besides physical attraction, and physical attraction goes away when it's only based on looks.

For most guys I think good looks tend to count more than character. I think the same thing is happening with many women today.

You're going to judge them based on looks more at first unless they are very exceptional characters lol.
But the character does go further but requires more time to get to know them. I've dated some chicks that I didn't think were that great at first but after getting to know them they were great girls.

If you find yourself trying to make a decision on what girl to persue, purely looks or purely character, you're looking at the wrong ones entirely. When you find the right person to date, both will be present equally. Initial attraction is purely physical, but what keeps the relationship together is the character.

I guess a mix is important. The looks is NOT as important as the way she is as a person though... but mix mix mix.
