Some things to keep in mind:
- Are you allowed to have pets in your apartment?
- Do you have the time and the inclination to take him for several long, energetic walks everyday and is there a place nearby handy for this?

You might try a trial period before the summer - a weekend or a few days during the week to see how it goes - both for you and for the dog.

My neighborhood is full of tiny apartments, yet I see a lot of people with large, energetic dogs, so it can be done - it's just going to be a little cramped.

Good answer.
I'd also suggest that it depends on the age of the dog.
A young Labrador is going to need a lot more attention than an older one.  Young ones will tend to bark repeatedly if not given attention, where an older one will be beyond that.

Remember that this is a big dog, and has needs that will require your attention.  It's not just the size of the apartment, but your compatibility with the care and feeding of a large dog.

Dogs are denning animal - for sleep at least, but also social, so depends on how nevervous the dog is which is affected by whether or not its pack/family is present. Aside from that depends on if the dog is a chewer or pee-er ect. Good answer above BTW.

Thanks for the kind comments on my answer.

I also wanted to add, on further reflection, that you should be sure you can get the dog to a vet if necessary - preferably his usual vet, but one in the neighborhood is a good idea as well.
