Q: How much does a chimpanzee cost?

I imagine, to raise one, it would cost as much as a human baby. I just wonder about actual startup cost: purchase, initial vet bill, and so on. (Maybe there are startup costs I haven't considered.)

As far as I know its illegal right? and unless you find a backdoor to get one into the country you have to pay someone a lot of money once its smuggeled in... in this article is says they cost 30k

Owning a chimpanzee is illegal, but I do know that smugglers earn a lot of money with them so I bet they're very expensive.
