Play time

My daughter likes moives and Seasamee Street too, also Dora the Explorer. But if she is given a choice of sitting and playing with her toys and dolls and stuffed animals with me or watching something, she will always play. It takes more time and effort from me, but she loves it, and she is not watching.

Remove TV

Easy, Remove TV. Force kid to do something besides watch TV. The kid is very young and will easily adapt to new play settings. Might as well get them off the tv now, and onto more engaging activities while they are young.
Also lead by example. No tv for the kid = no tv for you.

Start showing them how to cook with you, clean with you ect. The more friends and, parents especially, play/work with their children the less other things distract them. Kids are built to learn fast and take a lot of energy to keep up with, but it's better time playing/ working together now than when greater problems arise later.
