Spanish, and it's near relatives (Portuguese, Italian ect.), are the #1 most spoken language(s), and is spread in groupings all around the globe. Since I live in the US and know more than 1 person I'd like speak to in Spanish, I am learning that, slowly.

Mandarin (Chinese)
Submitted By: right.h.man ( 47 days, 21 hours, 29 minutes ago )

I'm half Chinese right now and I can speak Cantonese very good.

Cantonese is spoken in Hong Kong and in the areas arround Canton City.  Thats why its still a very popular language.

Mandarin however is spoken everywhere :)

Mandarin is, I think the 2nd, maybe 3rd most spoken language, but is not very diffuse across the globe, so unless I move to China...

An Interesting Language to learn
Submitted By: Mathew ( 47 days, 21 hours, 5 minutes ago )
I can barely speak English and that's my mother tongue!  I'd like to learn Esperanto!
Submitted By: I wish I knew
Esperanto is supposedly a great introductory to learning a second language, and is claimed so easy to learn that even new to learning a 2nd can learn fluently in months... Perhaps a great way for friends to have a hobby together, or international groups to have a way for everyone to speak to everyone else in the group.

Without a doubt, Latin
Submitted By: michaeljh ( 47 days, 20 hours, 27 minutes ago )
Latin is like the root of so many languages and since I'm going to be taking so many tests within the next year and a half (AP exams, SATs, etc.), it's best to know where they all came from. There's always plenty of Latin root questions anyway.

Unfortunately, look what I said! I'm not interested in learning it just for the hell of it, I have a coerced reason of learning it that will directly benefit me. I've come a long way just to loose so much intrinsic motivation, it's all coercion.

Latin is used especially in medicine, law, science, and some ecclesiastical settings. So unless you're to enter one of those fields I think Spanish (Latin derived, so gives some Latin by default), or other language you'd use regularly is a better choice.

Just esperanto

I large portion of the worlds problems could be greatly diminished by one language and the learning by communicating that would ensue.
