1) Goto google and search for Sisoft Sandra. (it's a system checker),
2) Download a free/demo copy of Sisoft's Sandra and install it.
2) Run the Motherboard Information applet, then scroll down to the System Memory Controller section of it's report. Voila! It'll probably tell you more than you ever wanted to know...

It should be written in your motherboard's manual what kind of RAM the board accepts. That's the type of RAM you have... most likely.

Since you probably didn't build this system yourself the easiest way is to go to http://www.crucial.com Just look up your computer and it'll tell you the rest.
