I would say minimum is around 1300 if you want new, if you want a used one you can easily pick one up for $600 on redflagdeals.com

For you, $1000 sir.

Seriously, you can get a laptop for $200 or less. Get an old ThinkPad with a 400mhz CPU and a good bit of ram. Install windows 2k on it. Should be plenty powerfull to do webbrowsing, Word Processing, Listen to CDs, and programming. Anything else is a distraction. If you arn't into computers then you should probably get an iBook, especialy the kind that look like a purse.

They come in right at $1k, new at the Apple store. A wonderful machine for the cash.

But they are still PowerPC based, so an update should be coming sometime real soon. Why buy something that is going to be outdated so soon?

Rebates, Rebates, Rebates

Check out Circuit City if you have one nearby, or Staples, I got a brand new, Acer laptop from Circuit City last September for $500, with a wireless router and a printer for free, all after rebates. Also, if you don't need the latest and greatest in hardware, try (as much as it pains me to suggest buying anything from Hell, oops, I mean Dell) www.dellauctions.com. They auction off overstock, refurb, and old business lease models there.

I am guessing your a student?
Submitted By: jer2eydevil88 ( 312 days, 11 hours, 49 minutes ago )
Usually its a student looking for a $1000 or less notebook, so if that is the case ask your university what deals they have from Dell, IBM, Apple and any other partners they may have. If it is a larger university you can even try to make friends / (if your an even teenie bit attractive girl) go out with an employee in the tech department and get them to give you their employee discount (trust me they get $300

what electronics store did you work at?? i worked at circuit city for almost 2 years, and we never got even close to 10% off the price of the highest end laptops. Low end, like the kind he is looking for were even worse.

Check out the Best Buy ad or BestBuy.com. They usually have a computer with a Centrino processor for, sometimes, under $1000.

The answer to this depends entirely on what you plan on doing with your laptop. Are you a developer? A big first

You can get a laptop from dell that, last time I checked, cost $500. What I would highly recommend is take that laptop and upgrade the ram to 512mb, otherwise you're not gonna be happy with it. In the end it will cost under $600, you will have a warranty on it and good service (at least from my experience with dell).

Get a used iBook
Submitted By: Bob ( 310 days, 13 hours, 10 minutes ago )
I recommend picking up a used iBook - since it's a mac, you know exactly what you're getting. The resale value will also be better when you get rid of it eventually. Best of all, you can pick one up for about $900 and it will work really well!
