Q: What would your $500 computer look like?

I might have $500 to burn and want to assemble a simple desktop system that won't be used for gaming. I will use it for word processing, the internet, backing up movies and music. I have a monitor. What would you do?

If you're just using the computer for word processing, internet, and backups, then you don't really need much power. I'd recommend a minimum of 256 MB of RAM (preferably 512) to avoid any speed issues, but you really don't have to worry about processor speed too much. A decent sized hard drive might be in order, depending on how much data you have to back up.
