Linux Distro
Submitted By: firelord (12)
Ok, not starting a flame war but I need to ramp up on Linux fairly quickly and I don't know what distro I may be using. What would be a fairly easy distro to dual boot with my Windows XP laptop. I have a Dell Inspirion 9300 and I'd like to be able to use the majority of its hardware. I'm a longtime DOS/Windows user and can get around fairly well there. www.linuxdoc.org plans on being my friend. Thanks

How can I troubleshoot LDAP service on SuSE?
Submitted By: mikegee24 (30)
My LDAP service isn't functioning and I don't know how to go about figuring out what's wrong. I can start and stop the service and it claims to start and stop as expected, but I can't connect to it with an LDAP browser or login with an LDAP user account.

I'm new to Linux, so I installed Ubuntu on my laptop. I go to school at the a href="http://www.it.utah.edu/services/connected/wireless/index.html"U of Utah/a, and they have secure wireless and wired networks that require authentication. For XP, they install SecureW2, and I can get it to work. For Linux, I guess you're supposed to use a href="http://open1x.sourceforge.net/"Xsupplicant/a. I installed it with apt

How can I migrate to MD5 user passwords in SuSE?
Submitted By: mikegee24 (30)
Apparently there's an 8 character limit by default on SuSE, because of crypt.  I'd rather not reinstall the whole OS again.  BTW, I'm working with SLES9 (pretty much SuSE 9.3, as far as I can tell).
Printing under SuSE 10.1 to a shared printer connected to Win XP box

Anybody have any reccomendations as to how to set up SuSE 10.1 to be able to print to a printer connected to a Win XP box? Do I do it through Samba or use CUPS? Is there a firewall issue I need to consider?
