A Term to Get People to Visit Conferences
Submitted By: Obop ( 348 days, 7 hours, 8 minutes ago )
Web 2.0 was coined by O'Reilly publishing for their conferences.  There isn't an exact definition but mostly it's web sites that use things like Ajax and RSS and stress member participation.  Web 2.0 sites also usually follow certain design trends like using rounded corners and san serif fonts.  Some examples  sites considered Web 2.0 are this site, wikipedia and other wikis, blogs, and digg.  I tend to think that while some of the elements of Web 2.0 are very influential and here to stay Web 2.0 is just a buzzword that will soon be forgotten when the next internet fad comes around.

  1. websites that use Ajax
  2. websites where USERS provide the content.
When the web started, people used the publishing model to build websites. Everyone thought that you needed to hire people to create the content, a la the publishing world.

Then (not sure who was really first) USERS started creating the content, and that is Web 2.0.

Actually users were creating content BEFORE THERE WAS A WEB.
Users of bulletin board systems were creating content.
