I'd like to be able to go to my profile section and have it list links to all the questions I've answered (so I can see how well my answer is doing but also to read the other answers to that question), to see a list of links of the questions that I've asked, and a list of links to comments I've made.

Graded, catagorical ratings...

A graded answer system 0-5 in serveral catagories at once. For example Funny=2, Insight=4, Agree=3, Flamebait=1, Spam=2. This way a use sort can be made to seek out best insights, humor, most agreed upon, or to mod down spam and flamebait. Eliminating a seperate report as spam option... I also don't think you should be able to mod yourself on insight, flamebait, agree or spam in above example. Though you should be able to rate how funny it was to you to let some know it's meant to be lighthearted without typing it in comments crudely.

A safe captcha method

your captcha is a joke for every spammer with a little bit of java/html/scripting knowledge. you have only 6 possible choices and the picture doesn't change after a faulty input.
the spammer just has to try all 6 answers and can eventually even learn the right answer from the probably low diversity of pictures. you should work on that, else this page will be spammed by poker/viagra/cialis spam etc :().

The ability to merge answers

So many of the existing questions have duplicate answers. If some one already answered with the same answer you had, you should have picked theirs, not added a new answer.
For those who are incapable of independent thought (ie they are stupid) we need the ability to merge answers.

2. OR a selection to go to hot topics, or new questions.
3. A top button, or a answer button at the bottom.4. A subsection for unanswered questions.

View all questions in a category

For categories with subcategories you should be able to click on the subcategory and see just that but you should also be able to click on the category and see the questions from all the subcategories. If you like a category you probably would want to see all the questions from all the subcategories and it gets annoying having to look through each one.

I like the over all design of the site, but ten questions per page is too few. Perhaps making the windows and such a little msaller would help this, that and an option to have more questions on the page.
Also, there should be a page selector at the bottom of the page too (you know, page 1 | 2 | 3 |...)

Display the top answer (most picked (should be renamed agreed)) below the question. Add a button to increment that answers agreements.
Add a button to expand the answers (using AJAX) so one can pick another answer. Only show titles unless they are expanded.

Filters, user content removal, links, cold

1. I want to eliminate all the AOL chat type questions from the front page. I don't care what anyone's favorite movie is. So a checklist on my profile page (a list of categories that I could select or deselect, which would then filter content on the front page) would be nice.
2. I want the capability to make negative picks. Of the two questions I asked, one received no answer and the other received six picks for the WRONG answer. It's bad enough that people kept making the pick after I said the answer would not work, but nothing could have been done even if others did understand that it was wrong, because nobody can "unpick" an answer.
3. When you're online, the best answer is usually a link. So add support for posting links.
4. My question that received no answers so far is one of those you ask in IRC and somebody says, "Everyone knows the answer to that," but then nobody ever answers, so it seems like nobody does know...like it's some bizarre joke. I have a lot of questions like that. I don't know if there ever will be an answer to them. So it would be nice for me if somehow people could be alerted of questions that appear to be unanswerable. Sort of a "cold case files" for questions.

Report answers as duplicate AND point to the duplicate answer so it can be merged by an admin (slick) - at least comments votes attached to original answer.

I like to see what people have commented on my posts. Since this is Q&A, responses are even more important. There should be an easy way to see all my posts, search posts of others, etc. Maybe throw in some other advanced search features too.

you can search for qestions, but it would be nice if i could search answers too. For example, i wanted to look up anything dealing ith mac minis, but searching questions yields nothing, even though they have been brought up in several answers.

Keep more stories on the front page. the point here is to get questions answered but its impossible to get one when you've fallen off of the front page. In the end I guess a way for your question to get more views. thus more answers.

Remove the pick button, make it so when you click on the pick count, it increments.
Remove the comment count, thats useless.

You click "add comment" and your text box opens up to type, but the button to submit says "add note." Also, to report the comment the link says "report note." Is it a Note or a Comment?

i have some basic health questions that i'd like to ask here. Tho i do think a disclaimer saying that users should go and see a real doctor for anything that could be serious and all emergencies should be dealt with with their local emergency services website.

A respondent rating system similar to what eBay uses for vendors and Google Answers uses for its answer providers. This incentivizes people who provide good answers. An Icon system similar to eBay vendor ratings could be used to show a person has answered often and been rated well by their peers. The rating should, however be more heavily weighted on the community vote of the quality of response than just the number of times a person answers trivia.

This is a must have. People like choice. On our profile page, we should be able to have options like different types of layout (like only show headings, number of questions to be shown on one page).

Group response entry and moderators

You should look at the Fatwallet.com forums for a good example of three things.
- They have moderators who keep the forums straight. They move threads to the right categories when wrong, eliminate/lock them when duplicat, and maintain a high level of discourse. They are very largely responsible for the quality of their forums.
- A recent innovation is the common response entry after any initial posting. Whenever someone posts a new thread, a second entry that any user can edit is put after it. This allows viewers to quickly get to the meat of a question. If the best or correct answer is buried ten pages down, I don't want to have to search through all of those pages to find it. It may not be that worthwhile. However, if the originator, moderator, or some kind user, puts the best answer(s) in this entry, it is much, much easier to find.
- Ratings. Good posts (and the posters) are rated either positive, neutral, or negative (see my previous post). This is one way to create incentive for good questions and good answers. If respondents feel they can build reputation, that builds community.

Show more comments needs ranking

If you're going to truncate the comments then after a certain number any new comments will never be seen unless you click the link. If you're going to do this there better be a comment ranking system also, along the lines of amazon, "was this helpful to you (yes/no)?"

show if a user is online when you click on their name to get to their profile. Also have an add answer at the bottom of the page so the user does not have to scroll all the way to the top to add an answer once he's read all the current answers. Perhaps a "Go to top" button would also be good.

Science section!

I have only been using this site for about a week, and I've already witnessed several cases where a science section would have served the question better, see "cigarette" question in the Politcs section and some others under Technology-General.
I understand that technology is "in" but apparently so are "Pets", "Travel", and "Home & Garden". So why not science?

there are two glitches I found, one when I do a search, 50% of the time I get a;
