RSAD is a great little school I just visited down in Sarasota, FL. It is pretty small, but has amazing connections to Pixar, Disney, Industrial Light Magic, Universal etc. There is one hallway in their Computer Animation BUILDING that is lined with movie posters from recent big time box office films with little plaques under them listing RSAD students who contributed to the film professionally. Check out rsad.edu if you're interested. Good luck!

not trying to talk you out of it.

Hi there,
I'm a recent graduate of an animation school (the Art Institute of Seattle) and within a few months of schooling your dream of working for Pixar will be crushed. i too wanted to work for pixar. so does every other animator. the major problem with the Computer Animation industry is Pixar. Pixar and other animation studios caused a sudden boom in the computer animation industry because of its sudden popularity. Throngs of teenagers and adults are now wanting to go and work for pixar. I'll say if you truly have what it takes you will know in the first few months. about 50% (give or take) of my starting class dropped out! You, like myself are more likely to become an animator for videogames early on than movies. unless you find a really good school.
I graduated with honors at the top of my class, 7 months later I still haven%u2019t been able to find a job. Again, an over saturated market. I'm not trying to talk you out of it, just not wanting to see another person have their dreams crushed and think that%u2019s the end. I stuck through the years and made it out, and if you really have skill, in art. You have a chance.
Another problem is people who want to become animators and have no art background. YOU NEED TO KNOW ART! Do you draw? All the time? Can you adapt other styles not your own? Do you draw things besides Anime? Because anime won%u2019t get you a passing grade at an animation school... it%u2019s almost mocked

I'm always hearing great things about the Vancouver Film School. Check out their website for some sample student work for the 3d Animation and Visual Effects program. Some pretty amazing stuff.

I've rarely heard of anyone who suceeds without doing some on their own beyond what is taught. Blender is a decent free program to try, just search for it. Mostly though, whatever comes your way hovever small, if this is "really" what you want to do, you'll find yourself placed in ever greater roles. Big Idea is supposely a nice company to work for, if you don't mind it's Christian basis. I love Veggietales myself...

You could then take some quick field trips to Pixar since you'd be in the same state.

Ok, I know this question was asked a long time ago, but I'm sure we need to mention NSCAD (Nova Scotia College of Art and Design) in Halifax, which is one of the leading Art Schools on the planet. No kidding. Check it out.
