... My Vote. No matter what you buy it is going to depreciate as soon as you drive it off the lot. Check the used prices in your local paper, they are that way for a reason.

The Mazda 3 is a great buy for the price. It gets pretty good mileage and you get the most options for your money. Bought mine nearly fully loaded for $19,400 for a 2004 model.

scion tc

the scion tc is a fairly cheap car, and from what I understand (used car magazines), scion tc's are selling at or above their msrp, and actually being bought at those higher prices.

I think if you do any research you'll find that Honda and Toyota are probably the best vehicles for retaining their value. Subaru also seems to be very good at retaining value but I'm sure a lot of it is due to their name more than anything. If you read any Lemon

My CR-V pleases me

I have a 2000 Honda CR-V that is paid for and still worth about $10,000 cdn. if I were to sell it now. My sister-in-law has a 2003 Celica. She owes $8700 cdn. and can get about $15,000 cdn. for it.

Toyota

Toyotas are great, and hold their value really well. Just try to buy a used Echo or Matrix and see what I mean. You can get much more for the car if you leave all the parts stock and don't do a bunch of weird aftermarket stuff, since people want the car to be original. Always have it serviced at the dealer, and keep all your receipts! Having paperwork and documentation is really important when getting top dollar.

It is a fun car and holds most of its value after 3 years. the cooper is fun, but the cooper S can take it to a lot of the cars out there. I have had my Mini Cooper S up to 130 mph and there is no real difference inhandeling from 55 mph.
