I have been driving a Volvo for almost 20 years now.  It was the only car my kids were allowed to drive while they lived at home.

The more mass the better.

On average, the more the car weighs and the higher the driver's seat is in the car, the less harm is done to him in a road crash. So a heavy SUV (with all the latest airbag tech, of course) like a Hummer should be pretty safe.
