Q: Why wont my USB ports work anymore?
Submitted By: right.h.man, 118 days, 4 hours, 5 minutes ago
I have 4 USB ports on the back of my computer. A few months ago one stopped working.
When a device was plugged in, windows would say it couldn't recognize it.
Now all but 1 say that. So I have basically 1 out of 4 USB ports working.
I've tried a format a while back which didn't work at all.
I'm hoping someone else here has had experience with this.

Try a live cd

Go get yourself a linux live cd (knoppix, kanotix, Unbuntu, etc... just google search "live cd") burn it to a cd a reboot. If it doesn't boot off the cd you may need to change boot order in bios. Try a usb keyboard or mouse on any port thats not working in windows.
Linux has the best hardware detection so if it doesn't work under linux, it's probably a hardware issue.
