Q: I have an old laptop ... what is the best way to make it useful, and HOW?

Specs: 166mhz Dell Latitude LM, 40mb RAM and 2.1gig hard drive. I have actually had Win 95, Win 98, Win98se, Win2000 and XP sucessfully operating on this thing (slow) but is want to get linux going as a last and fast resort. THERE'S A CATCH! : It will not boot from CD rom and I'm new to linux for the most part! Thanks to Questionville in advance and have fun!

I actually do this I use one old computer just to download files... if it gets infected its np I can just reload everything from a image and back to normal...

I've had good results with shooting an old computer with a slug from a 12 gauge shotgun.

Webserver?

You might want to put a webserver on it to serve pages... that's if you need it :)
